As the riverside promenade continues, notice a brick gateway cutting through the old waterfront line. This is the Holy Spirit Gate - Brama Świętego Ducha - one of Gdańsk’s historic “water gates,” made to funnel people and goods from the quay straight into the Main Town. Look through the arch toward Świętego Ducha Street. It leads inland toward Saint Mary’s Church and the Royal Chapel, so this small gate is a perfect reminder of how Gdańsk worked: river traffic outside, the city’s busiest streets just a few steps in.
