Sigismund's Clock (Zegar Zygmunta)

About This Location

Tucked into a corner of Warsaw’s Old Town, Sigismund’s Clock is easy to miss at first. It sits on the wall of a restaurant just behind the Jan Kiliński Monument, along the route that follows the old defensive walls. The clock stands out because it is more than a simple timepiece. Around the dial, the signs of the zodiac form a decorative ring, giving it the feel of a small astronomical clock. When it chimes, a cheerful tune plays, adding a surprising little soundtrack to the street. The name points toward the nearby world of kings and ceremonies. Not far from here is Castle Square, watched over by the famous column of King Sigismund III Vasa. In the Old Town, grand symbols and small details often sit side by side, and this clock is a good example. It turns an ordinary wall into a landmark, and it rewards anyone who slows down for a moment and listens
