About This Location
A quick fact about Hamburg after World War II: the city had to rebuild almost everything that kept it alive - housing, streets, and especially the port. Much of central Hamburg had been heavily damaged by air raids, so postwar recovery meant clearing rubble, repairing infrastructure, and bringing trade back as quickly as possible. The pace of reconstruction is one reason Hamburg today feels so “new” in places where the street plan is actually very old.
