Venice has no cars, so every route through the centre is on foot, over stone bridges and along canal edges. Two sights pull most visitors in: St Mark's Basilica, rebuilt from 1063 and lined inside with over 4,000 square metres of mosaic, and the Rialto Bridge, the stone span Antonio da Ponte finished across the Grand Canal in 1591, its ramp still packed with shops. An audio walk traces the lanes between them. In the small bacari, order cicchetti and an ombra, the local glass of wine.
